Leonor Fini (Argentine, 1907–1996) is considered one of the most important female artists and avant-garde minds of the twentieth century. Her career included graphic design, book illustration, product design, and set/costume design for theatre, ballet, opera, and film. Born in Buenos Aires, Fini grew up in Trieste and Milan, Italy. Fini developed friendships with DADA and Surrealists artists like Salvador Dalí, Man Ray, De Chirico, Yves Tanguy, and Max Ernst.
Fini explored themes of individuality, gender, artifice, and nature as a proponent and inspiration for her work. Fini continues to be lauded as an art, theatre, design, and fashion icon.
